At Aquafix, our eagerness for fixing every problem in the wide world of wastewater means we encounter some of the strangest situations water can offer. In this new series, Unique Applications, we look at some of our most stand out issues and most inventive solutions.

BEFORE: Disruptive filaments caused this digester to overflow with foam.

AFTER: Foam Buster and Biogas1 stopped the foaming and increased methane production.

A municipal wastewater treatment plant in Kansas called with an aerobic digester overflowing with foam. This digester had produced minimal methane for over two years, and within a week of the foaming issue, lost all methane production. The plant first sent Aquafix samples of the foam and mixed liquor, where our lab identified multiple species of disruptive filaments. The plant then added our Foam Buster at the aeration basin along with Biogas1 in the anaerobic digester. Within two weeks the digester stopped foaming and saw record methane production.

Products Used: Foam Buster and Biogas1
