At Aquafix, our eagerness for fixing every problem in the wide world of wastewater means we encounter some of the strangest situations water can offer. In this new series, Unique Applications, we look at some of our most stand out issues and most inventive solutions.

Qwik-Zyme L is being cleverly metered in, using an inverted soda bottle

Our distributor Pablo in Colombia, South America came up with a great way to meter in biocatalysts (pictured above). This lagoon’s waste stream consists of municipal sewage, yuca plant processing waste, and dairy waste. The combination of difficult to degrade yuca starches, and difficult to degrade dairy proteins was leading to sludge buildup and odors.

We loved the constant warm temperature of the lagoon water. The warm water allowed for high efficiency and fast COD removal rates by our protein degrading biocatalyst, Qwik-Zyme P, and our workhorse biocatalyst, BugJuice. They used VitaStim Summer Slam to add some good bacteria to the system as well.
